A’kum. It’s been a week since I wrote the first blog...Well, nothing much to say...hehe..
As the days passed, and the CL class went on I slowly understand about the course which is fundamental to understanding how to read and write academic purposes. I realized that this course isn’t that difficult as it explains how the texts are constructed and how readers are positioned to understand the texts. I have learned the particular aspect of CL such as perspective, positioning, argument and audience. In this particular week, we have discussed the Reading 1.1 entitled “Convicted Killer”. We were asked to read through the text and had to find the answers based on the headings. There were ten headings that need to be answered such as topic, content, source, audience, rhetorical function, purpose, perspective, positioning, impact and visual literacy. We learned how to find the answers from the texts given and how to write the answers.
The most interesting part was when we had to present our part in front of the whole class. I had to present the source. It was fun because I can know whether my answers were right or not. We received the comment from Mr. Joe as soon as the presentation ended and there was a two ways of communication between the students and lecturer. The reading was also interesting as it revealed the true story about a convicted killer that had been released because of the mercy from the King of Saudi Arabia.
However, there were some concepts in this chapter that difficult to understand. I’m still blur about how to write those three elements; perspective, positioning and impact. It was hard to understand because I haven’t learned them before and this was the first time. I hope that there will be no problem anymore as the class passes by. That’s all for now. Will be writing soon... thanks.
